Korean War Veteran Legacy

October 23, 2021 by mcarey

If you are a Korean War veteran, you are invited to participate in an international effort to record an oral history of the Korean War by those who experienced it.  A video library is being created and catalogued, and you now have a unique opportunity to carry your legacy forward to future generations.

Jongwoo Han, joint faculty of the Maxwell School’s Korean Peninsula Affairs Center, Syracuse University, and noted author, founded the Korean War Veterans Digital Memorial and now serves as President for the Korean War Legacy Foundation, which has more than 1,500 Korean War Veterans from 21 countries – the world’s most extensive database. His Legacy Foundation wants your story!

There are 139 Korean War service members in our chapter. Mr. Han would like to meet with each and every one of you if possible. He will begin videotaping at the Brownwood Hotel and Spa starting November 2nd and would like to start scheduling interview appointments now. To date, he has recorded interviews of hundreds of Korean War veterans who served on land, sea and air – some of whom you may know!

CALL TO SCHEDULE YOUR ‘LEGACY’ INTERVIEW

PLEASE CALL Mark Carey, KWVA Chapter 169 webmaster, at 352-356-8828 to schedule your interview date and time.  If he is not available, please leave a message and Mark will get right back to you. We realize that travel and mobility may be an issue for you and we are arranging transportation to/from the studio in The Villages area if required.

This interview is supported by Korean government’s Ministry of Patriots and VA for a special commemoration project of the 70th Anniversary of the Korean War. It will be used in the US and world’s history classrooms for long time.

I plan on being interviewed and I encourage you to do the same.  Please let your legacy carry on and don’t let the ‘Forgotten War’ through your eyes be forgotten!

Thank you,

Gen John
