A special request from Steve Straehley, Senior Reporter – The Villages Daily Sun
I wanted to reach out and make sure you saw the news in the May 19 Daily Sun about a community effort underway to honor our local WWII veterans. For the 75th anniversary of the war’s end, the Daily Sun is committed to finding every WWII veteran living in The Villages to make sure they are honored with a memorial brick in a ceremony later this year. Would you please help us spread the word to your group, and ask them to send the names of any WWII veterans they know to Senior Veterans Reporter Steve Straehley at firstname.lastname@example.org or 352-753-1119 ext. 5228
Also, several groups have organized fundraising efforts to cover the cost of these special memorial bricks ($55 each), and we want to make sure we tell any such stories from your corner of the world. So please reach out to me if any of that activity is going on with you, and I’ll make sure it gets written up in the paper as well.
The efforts to honor the great heroes of World War II — the voices of the Greatest Generation — is truly a race against time.
Thank you for helping the Daily Sun ensure that their sacrifice is memorialized in a way that will enrich our entire community.
